Garritan Announces Free Interactive Jazz Arranging Course (Winter 2007-2008)

Artissimo.gr record entry date : Tue 15/Jan/2008

Garritan Launches Free Online Interactive Jazz Arranging Course

-- Multimedia, self-pacing course is based on Chuck Israel’s "Jazz Arranging" --

---------------------

Orcas Island, WA – Garritan Libraries, the leading sample soundware company, has launched a free online jazz arranging course. "Exploring Jazz Arranging" is an entire jazz arranging course based upon an interactive version of Chuck Israels' upcoming book. The inclusion of audio-video examples makes this ideal for all who want to learn about jazz arranging. Chuck Israels is a true jazz legend and there is simply no better source from whom to learn about jazz arranging.

A knowledge of jazz is indispensable for many musical endeavors, including film scoring, composing for interactive games, arranging, notating, teaching, and much, much more. The modern composer of popular or film music benefits greatly from studying jazz arranging.

This course is already recognized for excellence, as it is currently being used at the Juilliard School of Music for their course in Jazz Arranging; and we are honored to present it to you, free, in this enhanced interactive edition.

This online course embeds over 100 animated scores in its twenty lessons, enabling participants not only to see the scores online, but hear the music as it follows the score. The courses are supplemented by online discussion forums for each lesson, providing participants an opportunity to learn from Chuck Israels, himself.

Composer/arranger/bassist Chuck Israels is recognized worldwide as a master musician and arranger in the world of jazz. He has worked with Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, J.J. Johnson, John Coltrane, and dozens of other jazz giants. He is well known for being the bassist with the Bill Evans Trio from 1961 through 1966 and for his pioneering accomplishments in Jazz Repertory as Director of the National Jazz Ensemble from 1973 to 1981.

"This is another example of our giving back to the musical community," states Gary Garritan. "Our commitment to the musician does not end with just selling a product. We also want to strongly encourage acquiring the knowledge and learning the skills that enable musical talent to flourish."

The course just begun, and it’s also possible to pick up the lessons at any point, review older lessons, and participate in the course and forums 24/7.

To offer such a jazz arranging course, written and presented by a jazz great -- plus present it with interactive real-time examples, and open the learning process into an online co-operative – is truly something extraordinary!
