About music software
I just wanted a software program free, light and easy to use, simply a tool to sketch a few melodies or harmonies on a laptop computer for later to use. No special tricks, no programming language, not very sophisticated notation. Naturally, I tried to find the program of my interest using a search engine, but, "Rosegarden" runs on Linux platform and Finale Notepad didn't impress me that much ; it was not free anyway. So, I started downloading free programs to test them. Well, I was lucky : the first one to try was "Anvil Studio", version "2008.10.03" (yes, this programmer likes to use dates as version indicators). I used it for a quarter trying to find out what I was missing from my initial set of requirements. Well, nothing was missing ! The program is light - my netbook is based on an Intel Atom - the user interface is pleasant, help was there helping and not stopping me, good notation, many channels at the same time, easy ways of inserting all kinds of notes using the keyboard, good midi export, support for independent meter keys and tempos and nicely fitting into my netbook's screen ! No bugs, no weak points. A small, attractive form of Cakewalk or something for (let's say) light use. And free of charge ! That is the right program to use as a music notepad : write all your notes, fill all your tracks using its "musical" keyboard and export everything as a midi file to use later if desired. It's name is "Anvil Studio" and its creator is named "Willow Software". A nice, full-of-features, free program for music composition. Period. (**) (**) Anvil Studio has also a lot of other features not mentioned here. Try to find all information at www.anvilstudio.com .
