Queens Symphony Orchestra : We have lost a member of the QSO family - Abba Bogin (Summer 2011)
|
|
Artissimo.gr record entry date : Wed 31/08/2011

The announcement is repeated below in simple text format : Dearest Musicians, Board Members, Staff and Music Lovers,
Last night we lost a piece of New York musical history. Our dear colleague and friend Abba Bogin passed away after a struggle with cancer. Abba was a consummate musician and a wonderful person to be around. We will all miss his humor, professionalism, and the benefit of his experience. He was a big part of the soul of the music business here in New York and his work took him through every style of music one can imagine. From chamber music to concerti to his work on Broadway with the venerable Frank Loesser he was thoroughly at home with all kinds of music.
There is one afternoon that I spent with him that I cherish in particular. I was preparing to conduct "The Most Happy Fella" for the opera program at Indiana University. Abba had been the associate conductor on the original Broadway production and so I asked if I could go through the score with him. Not only did he joyfully play through the entire score he had so many wonderful and enlightening stories to tell about the process of putting that show together. It's the kind of lore that enriches one's life and experience.
To his wife Masako and his children, we are thinking of you and stand ready to assist you in any way we can. We will always keep Abba in our hearts and in our music making. His smile will always bless musical life here in our great city. Abba, rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Constantine Kitsopoulos Music Director Queens Symphony Orchestra
