| QSO announces its exciting fall lineup! | | Gauchito and the Pony | |  | QSO offers school classes an interactive, exclusive orchestral performance at Queens College on Oct. 15, 2009. The show, complete with costumed singers, projections and narration, even includes audience participation throughout the piece! | | Young Soloist Competition | |  | The application for our 2010 Young Soloist Competition is now available on our website! Applicants can compete to win cash prizes in addition to performing as a soloist with QSO. Spread the word! | | | | QSO is looking forward to an exciting fall season! In October, we launch our 2009-10 Masterworks Concert Series, entitled Strings Attached, at QPAC. Also in October, we are proudly presenting our exclusive Young People's Concert "Gauchito and the Pony" like never before at Queens College to grades K-8. And in November, QSO and the Queens Library are joining together to present Symphony 101; a FREE, family-friendly educational music series at libraries throughout the borough. Join us as we celebrate the joy of classical music this fall! | | QSO's Season Opener, The New Salon Music | Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at 7:30 pm (pre-concert lecture at 6:30 pm) Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC) QSO's Masterworks Concert Series, Strings Attached, will open with an exciting combination of classic and modern chamber works in The New Salon Music. The evening will open with C.P.E. Bach's Symphony No. 1 in G Major, a work which bridged the gap between Baroque and Classical fashions. The evening will continue with a world premiere by Michael Starobin, entitled Variations on a Theme by Sondheim. Next, QSO's 2009 Young Soloist Competition winner, Andrew Lowy, will perform Aaron Copland's Concerto for Clarinet. And to close the evening, QSO will present a work influenced by Bach, Divertimento in D Major by W.A. Mozart. To learn more about each selection, attend our pre-concert lecture where you will be able to ask questions and hear from our guest artists and Maestro Kitsopoulos. | | Symphony 101 launches this Fall! | | QSO and the Queens Library have partnered to create an exciting series at libraries throughout the borough called Symphony 101. This family-friendly, FREE educational series explores each instrument family through live musical demonstrations and an engaging presentation by Music Director Constantine Kitsopoulos. The series will begin with Strings Attached, the string family, on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at noon at the Central Library and again at 3:30 pm at the Jackson Heights Library.
