Information
Well, speaking for myself, usually I am also buying music scores from the music bookstores, but, why not try another more economical solution - you know about these things, introduction of the euro, problems with high inflation, reevaluation of goods etc. - so the future belongs to http://www.sheetmusicarchive.net ! This is where you can find a good variety of music scores corresponding to various composers which you can download to your hard disk in the format of Acrobat Reader (that is "pdf" - spelling like the word "egg" :-) ) free of charge. The Acrobat Reader program is freeware and can be "fetched" from the website of the software company Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html . We should note that this application is available for (many) many platforms and not for Windows exclusively, but you can only use it in order to read a text and not to create a new one or edit an existing one (for this holy purpose you must use another edition that you must pay for - well, don't blame me for that, I am just giving the information here!). What is left for you is just to print the music scores in order to be able to use them while being away from your computer (the other alternative is to buy ... a pair of binoculars!). It is very important to say that the website under discussion is neither piratical, nor illegal, they are just taking advantage of the fact that, generally, copyrights one day expire, even if the corresponding sets of laws among the various countries are totally different. Anyway, at that website I was able to find for myself some transcriptions for the piano by Liszt and other composers that I was looking for (well, I didn't want them so desperately so that I would ... pay money for them!). I also found some samples by Scriabin and Joplin (yes! "ragtime") etc.. I haven't understood yet whether those guys in that website have processed the music text from scratch (rather time-consuming) or they just scanned existing music texts which are not under copyright any more (and if that can be possible) ?! Anyway, the website is OK and I am suggesting you to drop a visit : http://www.sheetmusicarchive.net .
