Wednesday 25 May 2005 : Bolero's axiom - The bat's theorem

Semantics

Well, well, you are welcomed to classical music's advanced semantics !

What is Bolero's axiom ? It's the fact that classical music elements are so rich and efficient that you can indefatigably listen to the same and the same melody over and over again played by the entire orchestra under almost the same rhythm and harmony, just because ... well, classical music has its own magic : not everything can be explained ! Ravel himself wrote Bolero as a kind of joke and not as a piece of music to be presented as a masterpiece ! What else can one say on this matter !

And bat's theorem ? What is it ? It's the fact that once you start listening to Johann Strauss's music (of father or son alike) you just ... cannot stop listening to it until the entire piece is over ! What ? Are you laughing ? Well, just try to stop yourself ! You won't be able ! The most characteristic example is the overture of the operetta "Bat" : your mind cannot decide to stop listening to its melodies ! Try for yourself please ! (**)

(**) Whatever you listened to, don't try it at home ! :-))

Download and enjoy a recent composition ! Your opinion counts !
