Saturday 15 June 2002 : 8 years since the death of great Manos Hatzidakis

Earnestly speaking

Whatever we say in this extremely short paragraph will be rather small and inadequate. Manos Hatzidakis painted with his own music the whole Greece of his era, using in his magic canvas colours from every corner and small street that he found after searching all of them out with patience and courage ... His music is touching every possible mental mood having excessive vigorous force and sensitivity of the heart as well. Sometimes is getting black, darksome - as if it is waiting for the sun to rise in triumph in a while. Other times, anyway, from an apparent laziness, a characteristic and stimulating melody that even ... Mozart would be jealous of flows out ! In every composition of Manos Hatzidakis, musical instruments have a rather ritual role - as in an ancient Greek tragedy. In the face of the great composer, all Greeks are discovering a common point of expression and marks of reply to the dream of a better life, of an improved and hopeful tomorrow, and, also, of an enormous care and love for the yesterday, especially, those Greeks who are now listening. Those Greeks are also listening mostly of us all - but simply they are not aware of, because life itself will eventually teach them - it will not keep them in the dark for ever ! That's why Manos Hatzidakis opened and is still opening us another door for the dream itself that few people in the world have managed to open till our days. Whatever happens from now on, "Athanasia" (Immortality) now belongs to him. As the composer himself liked and acted so ...

Well, Hadzidakis was a very popular and gifted composer, but comparisons with Mozart shouldn't even be brought up.

Name : Michael
Does someone of the lyrics to "Kathe Trelo Pedi" ("All the Crazy Boys"? or ?) I first heard in on the Nana Mouskouri a l'Olympia. It's a hauntingly beautiful song..."Une des plus belles chansons Greque qui parle de la solitude de l"ame"-I would like to see an English translation of the lyrics if anyone has.
