Anniversaries
Today is the death anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven. Moreover, in a great coincidence, today is his 180 year death anniversary. These days I happened to listen all the time to his symphonies. May be just one more coincidence, eh ? Well, why we don't deal with a composer's death anniversaries as much as we do with his birth anniversaries ? In usual, deaths are related with the corresponding year only : we can all recall that Beethoven died in 1827, or that Mozart died in 1791. Maybe, the music books are also responsible for this situation, since they are usually talking about year and not actual dates. As a matter of fact, using years is helping us to place group of works and composers in some specific temporal area and then to examine their various interactions between them and their era or other top musicians. Perhaps, a better reason is that death is a negative event while birth is a positive one. Subconsciously speaking, no one wants to deal with negative facts without being obliged to do so. Birth, on the other hand, is hope, is life, is a light that is given to a new human. Regardless of the previous conversation, here is a music comment relative to Beethoven's death anniversary : Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
