Experiences
The listening - after a long time really - of the overture of the opera "Candide" as well as of the symphonic dances from musical "West Side Story" put me again (rather abruptly :-) ) in the mood of the live North American music output of the 20th century. The music is most clearly American, with "strong" rhythm, fantastic (I must say this again!) narrative flow and accordant melodrama. The harmonic sources, surely, are bringing their own share taken from jazz music. The orchestration, as a listener would naturally expect by Bernstein, is of an especially high level of expression and inspiration, like, anyway, every simple or composite melody that one can find in all those pieces of music. Finally, someone reaches the conclusion, that, classical music and jazz music (as well as the ballet or even other arts outside music area) can be married with an unsurpassable perfection (consider the incredible music of Gershwin as well!) and give the signal for further searching and qualitative mixes of great music genres - as has already been done. In order for this to be accomplished in the correct way, of course, among other things, we still need some more ... Bernsteins ! Moreover, the open minds of our side (the listeners) are also very important. Prejudices in every form of art are not to be accepted by anyone who thinks that ... he is not "stuck-in-the-mud"!
