Experiences Of course! It's difficult for you to ... find them (also look at the previous articles in NEWS about the number of discs by Greek composers which one is able to find in Athens), but, if you find them, then, you are ... listening to them, and you listen to pieces as the "Epirotic Jokes" (1994) of Spiros Mavropoulos (b. 1956) ** : here we are talking about the "astonishing" parody of three Epirotic songs - all of them for violin, clarinet and piano - which is so well-made and enjoying that you are wondering how is possible that such works have not been recognized more widely - in fact, there are steps towards the correct direction : flawless western technique, sources taken from the genuine folk songs, beautiful flow and convincing structure, several masterly passages and above all : respect to tradition and to quality ! Fantastic music that you can bet I am suggesting you to listen ! The apogee I think is the third piece, based on the song "mammy I cannot ...", where actually the three instruments are taking part in scenes of incredible as well as absolute ... wordiness (!), which are so "scientifically" (sic!) sound and so picturesque, that, in fact, you are ready to start laughing ! *** Congratulations, honestly, I didn't expect the work to be so good ! Amazing ! **** ** (performance by "Trio Korypho" [ violin by Spiros Gikontis, clarinet by Dimitris Papikinos, piano by Maria Koletti ] - the parts are lasting 4, 5 and a half and 4 minutes) - Some time - at last! - I shall create that ... cursed column of Greek composers that seems to be absolutely haunted ! :-(  *** especially if one thinks that using the melody under discussion is expressing - according to the optical disc's text - the bitterness and the anger of an ... unfulfilled love :-) a really almighty satire - let's all cheer for the Greek classical music ! **** As is known for milleniums : "Errare humanum est" : people are making mistakes ! :-) So, showing more confidence to Greek composers is not bad! (Think of this especially when you are about to enter the column "My Creations" :-) :-) ) *** |
