Thursday 6 February 2003 : Greek classical composers are hard to find

Experiences

It seems as if this is the case after all. By dropping a visit at a rather small-sized diskery which was selling compact discs (CDs) in the centre of Athens in order to find Greek classical composers (attention! the shop had also classical music among other genres), I went to the conclusion that the specific kind is rather ... underdeveloped (that is to say, while in older times you could not find anything, now, you can find something but after a lot of browsing). I, anyway, eventually found (at least) 4-5 cases with Greek composers only, so I bought 4 discs - that is, I "picked up" almost ... all diskery's stuff ! (the only CD to be left was an opera written by Christou if I remember well!) :-) The price was approximately 11 euros for each disc, but, in general, the duration of the discs as well as the quality of the performers and the recording were justifying the price to be paid - at least that was the conclusion drawn after a quick "testing" listening at home. **  ***

** In the case under discussion, the (well-known) names of the contributors which were written on the surface of the discs were being an important guarantee for the (possible) quality of the final result, in both technical (recording) and artistic (execution) terms. If those names were not present, then, perhaps, after all, it would be a good idea for one to buy one or two discs so that could "test" the shop in terms of their desire to leave their customers satisfied (the producers of the discs were completely unknown, so one could not result to any conclusion by them).

*** (artissimo.gr - moral section :-) ) The careful and measured purchase of original compact discs of music is the only way for all sides to remain satisfied. If you think a specific disc is especially expensive, then, this either means that you don't like it enough, or that one wants to exploit you - usually, excerpts from such discs are played regularly on the radio or other media. The potential piracy, anyway, is the worst solution possible, eventually harming all sides - with the apparent exception of the people acting illegally and trying to consolidate a problematic situation that is serving them well, with the manifest purpose of the easy, unlawful profit.
