Experiences Now I can understand better the term "Schubertiad"! ** It's such the springtime fresh and the melodic fragrance in Schubert's works that are bringing the eternal Spring! Nobody can ever imagine that there can be such an unconstrained improvisation with so much poetic power and beauty! The quiet calmness which is interrupted, rather rarely, by some moments of "agony", which are, nevertheless, quickly falling to pieces. By listening to the work "Impromptus" (opus no. 90) we are astonished by the romantic genius of the composer, which is maybe being expressed using less "fancy" means in comparison to other composers of his era, nevertheless, he can speak directly to the listener's soul with simple words and strong emotion. The melody is never "going" too far away from the initial point of start, but the mental mood is constantly changing a bit, and this fact is giving great interest to the evolution of each part - furthermore, the existence of relatively simple devices is making various expressive ideas compulsory, revealing the very great romantic talent of the composer. Similar feelings are also being created by the work "Musical moments" (opus no. 94), which is also based on countless improvising patterns. *** ** Term used by the (lucky) friends of Schubert, who were regularly met all together and (not at all rarely) "made" him improvise on the piano for hours without a stop ! In fact, those events were kind of "galas" for the fanatic friends of Schubert ! *** And keep on mind that we haven't - for the time being only - said a word about the numerous formidable lieds that were written by Franz Schubert ! *** |
