MR PLUS SAYS
The way a musical work exploits the various instruments as their musical range and their most characteristic attributes are concerned. For example, it is quite a paradox to use the bassoon at his highest notes all time long - you should also use its low ones because of their characteristic "heavy" and "dark" sound. Another good example are violins : their expressive capabilities are beyond description even in a volume talking about the actual art of orchestration ! They can play almost everything in almost every possible way creating almost every possible musical impression !
MR MINUS ARGUES
Needless to say that all these theories about orchestration and instruments' qualities are made just to create boredom and embarrassment to people ! They don't help anyone to listen to music in a better way than before !
MR RIGHT ELABORATES
I don't think so. A lover of classical music will always try to learn new things which will help him understand the essence of good music. This applies to an amateur musician or an unsophisticated listener alike.
