MR PLUS SAYS
Throughout 20th century, music had naturally found its way using a lot of science-related methods and inspiration sources. The results have been marvellous and, actually, many formidable, innovative works have been performed all those years. Not few talented composers have been writing music in their own way and thus expressing their very own feelings while their medium has been of immense variety. Music has always been and will for ever be under constant development ! This is true art, anyway !
MR MINUS ARGUES
Are you talking seriously ? Have you ever listened to any of those "formidable, innovative works" with your own ears ? Most of them are written with no obvious plan and no clear form. Others can be described as simply increasing our global noise pollution levels. Most are using instruments in rather peculiar-eccentric ways. Where are the old masters ? Where is their unsurpassable harmony and colour ? I need them desperately !
MR RIGHT ELABORATES
Well, there is no doubt that modern music is neither easy to listen to nor piece of cake for one to understand. There are often deep theories and complicated scientific elements that have been mixed with more traditional methods in compositional practice. Moreover, there are works out there that are just not good enough : let's admit it ! However, a listener with a relatively sound background and a good-will spirit will find a good number of 20th century works as very interesting and expressive, in their own modern but also often highly elaborated way.
