English Language : Classical Music : Composers : Classical Era (1750 - 1820)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)

NATIONALITY

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) : Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was Austrian.

IN GENERAL

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) : Mozart is considered the greatest and most authentic musical talent that has ever existed. Mozart had been a child prodigy (even as a composer !), but with big continuity during his adulthood as well. Mozart's work is unstrained, full of real art and gentleness, and a permanent grin is always waiting for us in the end of each of his phrases. We wished Mozart had lived a little more longer despite his enormous output. Unfortunately, in Mozart's era, a lot of instruments had not been perfected yet - mainly piano.

STYLE

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) : Mozart mainly used homophony and rarely polyphony at his musical writing. His style is a fine mixture of classic rococo style, the art of Bach and the Mannheim genre : that is to say, comparatively simple and skilful harmonies but also exceptionally decorated melodies that create the absolute sense of plenitude. Fantastic ease in the process of composition and very good ideas for the solution of any technical and musical problem. Mozart's biggest moments are lying in his wonderful operas - his style has itself something dramatic anyway.

WORKS

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) : Very large and important Mozart's output is - respectable portion of it written before adolescence (!) : 41 symphonies, 65 divertimentos (works written for small string orchestra usually), serenades (as small sonatas but most in the character of a song and simpler in the conception of the whole), 203 dances, 42 concerts for various instruments (mainly for piano-forte - the ancestor of modern piano), as well as respectable output of ecclesiastical music (like his last work, "Requiem", that was completed by his student Franz Sussmayr after Mozart's death).
