English Language : Classical Music : Composers : Romantic Era (1820 - 1880)

Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840)

NATIONALITY

Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) : Niccolo Paganini was Italian.

IN GENERAL

Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) : Niccolo Paganini is more famous as a very great violin virtuoso rather than as a composer. The pieces that Paganini had created were all meant for showing his fantastic talent, which was matchless for his time. Being a prodigy child, with a character too much unsettled, Paganini had enough bad habits and was (very) bohemian. In the end of his life, after a lot of adventures, Paganini had become very rich and was far-famed in the music world of his time. Paganini's fame made Liszt (and, in a smaller degree, Schumann) to seek for the limits beyond virtuosity in their own works, this time for the piano.

STYLE

Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) : For their epoch, Paganini's compositions had new ideas, an elegance, harmonious wealth and smart instrumentation. However, in order for them to be elevated to the level of the masterpieces, the one who would execute them should be an amazing violin virtuoso, that is to say, Paganini himself ! In any case, one can find in them the elements that are proving Paganini's undeniable musical talent.

WORKS

Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) : Paganini's output naturally consists of compositions for solo violin : 24 Capriccios for Solo Violin, 3 Concertos, Sonata Apassionata for Violin and Orchestra, 12 Sonatas for Violin and Guitar, 2 Sonatas and 2 Sonatinas for Guitar, a String Quartet.
