NATIONALITY Luigi Nono (1924-1990) : Luigi Nono was Italian. IN GENERAL Luigi Nono (1924-1990) : Nono is yet another important representative of European avant-garde music after World War II, who was from the first to move mainly to generalized serialism, using a lot of electronic means and working at the well-known studio of electronic music at Milan. Being also well-known for his communistic convictions, Nono tried to a degree to give his music a social-political role, while the accent was at vocal music. Nono's objective was to popularize art more than usual and to help greater part of the popular audience to listen to it. STYLE Luigi Nono (1924-1990) : Nono tried to apply the ideals of serialism to all of the parameters of the sound : the tone, the intensity, the duration, the timbre and the way of the production of the sound. In any case, Nono progressively managed to relax the strict way in which the composers of Serialism faced the production of the series and the shaped values that finally led to the musical text. In his electronic music, Nono used various expressive sounds, as : noises of factories, voices at the popular market, various bells, and Nono also used the language in such a way so that it would acquire large expressiveness along with the underlying music. Nono's political ideas are of course scattered into his work, making him up to a(n) (open to discussion) degree disputed. WORKS Luigi Nono (1924-1990) : Nono's output is particularly interesting - the opera "Intolleranza", cantatas for soloist, chorus and instruments, "The Terra and the Countryside", "The Land of Promise", Two Expressions for orchestra, Songs for 13 instruments, "Encounters" for 24 instruments.
