English Language : Classical Music : Composers : Classical Era (1750 - 1820)

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)

NATIONALITY

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) : Ludwig van Beethoven was German.

IN GENERAL

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) : Beethoven is the composer that basically expresses the classic period of musical art. Through his extended work, Beethoven explored so much new forms and technical directions, as well as a new course and destination for the art that proved that henceforth it can have unprecedented universalities when it expresses something really grand. In the level of his technical composition method and his morphology technique, Beethoven's conceptions are often unsurpassable and are continuously being object of analysis by all musicologists of every era.

STYLE

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) : Beethoven's style is mostly based on homophony with relatively smaller use of real counterpoint. His harmony has been advanced enough concerning his predecessors. Beethoven explored and found new ideas in the sectors of the musical forms and morphology. In his last sonatas, Beethoven wrote music for the real modern piano when this had not been manufactured yet (!). Beethoven also found admirable musical and technical solutions in each field of composition with which he dealt which he left as heritage for the composers to come.

WORKS

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) : Beethoven's output is really large and of high importance : 2 masses, choral works, cantatas, oratorios, his only opera "Fidelio", 4 overtures, 9 symphonies, 7 concertos for various instruments, 32 sonatas for piano, 10 sonatas for violin, a lot of duets, trios, string quartets and quintets as well as various songs.
