Luciano Berio (1925-2003)

NATIONALITY

Luciano Berio (1925-2003) : Luciano Berio was Italian.

IN GENERAL

Luciano Berio (1925-2003) : Berio is one of the biggest experimenters of serialism music after World War II, who mainly acted at the same time with Boulez and Stockhausen. Generally, Berio followed the mainstream of avant-garde music by also adding his own unique characteristics : the advanced perception of the language use and the content of social considerations in his works for the Musical Theatre.

STYLE

Luciano Berio (1925-2003) : Berio applied the generalized serialism mainly by using electronic means for the composition of music - Berio was the founder of the electronic studio in Milan, which was for many years centre of avant-garde music. Later, Berio also dealt with the Music of Accidental (Aleatorism). Berio was generally interested in the use of the human voice in music and this fact led him to the application of strange-original effects of human voice to his works. Berio experimented with the use of recording tapes at live performances. Berio helped in the further growth of the Musical Theatre and of its social content as well. In any case, fundamental point of reference in Berio's work is the use of language.

WORKS

Luciano Berio (1925-2003) : Berio's work is pioneering - the opera "Allez, Hop!", "Nones" and "Mutazioni" for orchestra, Variations for chamber orchestra, Serenade for flute and 14 instruments.
