English Language : Classical Music : Composers : Preclassical Era (1600 - 1750)

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

NATIONALITY

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) : Johann Sebastian Bach was German.

IN GENERAL

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) : Bach is one of the most important personalities that can someone think in the area of the traditional music as both the level of his composition and performance technique as also his multidimensional intellectual creation are concerned. Bach's effect on the later musicians, starting from his own era and ending up to our days, is continuous and very large. As a matter of fact, Bach - without, naturally, doing it on purpose - brought to exhaustion the musical style that he used by creating a grand series of highly valued compositions, which have been estimated by many as just unsurpassable!

STYLE

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) : Bach handled the style of the baroque era beautifully by combining the homophony and the polyphony in a well-matched way, which even led to the completion-exhaustion certain of the forms that the big composer developed. Classic example of this fact is the form of fugue. Remarkable is the absence of the kind of secular opera from his output, which has a rather religious character. His very high technique in every existing type of composition Bach dealt with in combination with a brilliant and restless spirit made it sure that Bach created rather the largest and certainly one of the most important musical productions of the human history!

WORKS

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) : Bach's output is really enormous. We can just quote : Vocal Music : 2 oratorios, 2 passions, cantatas and many lieds. Instrumental music : Symphonies, concerts, sonatas, trio. Music for keyboard : 6 exercise books with sonatas, fantasias and rondos, sonatas for 2 harpsichord and orchestra, 50 concerts. Also, rich theoretical work.

J. S. Bach did influence the development of western music, by better
representing polyphony. Is there any information on HOW he made music
better?
