Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)

NATIONALITY

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) : Giuseppe Verdi was Italian.

IN GENERAL

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) : The name of Verdi is very closely related with his genuine heroic Italian operas, which - in their turn - are related with the political way of Italy to freedom. In this political-cultural frame, Verdi - through several personal difficulties and misfortunes that, however, finally strengthened him - managed to become a kind of symbol for his epoch - at least for the Italians - creating music with large dynamic and definitely high levels of inspiration that naturally made a great impression on the international artistic world.

STYLE

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) : Verdi's operas have rich and very interesting subjects and have been written under a variety of mental situations and world of sentiments. The music flows freely with colourful style and also some kind of forward "movement" that seems to be unstoppable. Verdi's operatic world is built in a set of ideas and persons that are causing lively impressions - as was anyway the case at the "first nights" of Verdi's works - and that can only be interpreted in connection with Verdi's internal world. Verdi's output, as a matter of fact, is executed regularly in our days.

WORKS

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) : Verdi's output is naturally constituted mainly of melodramas : 26 operas (among others : "Rigoletto", "The Trovatore", "The Traviata", "The Force of Destiny", "Don Carlos", "Aida", "Othello", "Falstaff", "Nabucco", "Ernani", "Macbeth","A Masked Ball" etc.), 1 string quartet, 20 melodies, 1 Requiem and various religious pieces.
