Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924)

NATIONALITY

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) : Giacomo Puccini was Italian.

IN GENERAL

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) : Puccini is the most important composer of melodrama of his epoch and also the most important Italian romantic composer of the kind after Verdi. Puccini's first great success was the opera "Manon Lescaut" at the age of 35. Puccini wrote twelve operas in total and his last one, "Turandot", remained unfinished because of his death. Puccini's most famous work is "La Boheme", monument of passion and human adoration - also, of musical taste and absolute romantic expression.

STYLE

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) : Puccini dealt almost exclusively with the opera and he did this via a completely personal view that certainly defined that the opera should be the absolute mirror of a life full of passions, sentimentalism and eroticism. Puccini is one of the most erotic composers of music that has ever existed. In all of Puccini's works we can recognize the human passion and the human weaknesses - through an atmosphere of an almost "easy-going" kind - via a dimension that would lead in the non-distant future to realism, with big expressive power and presence. From the technical point of view, Puccini did not employ any particular artistic extremities as other composers did during his era, e.g. as Debussy did.

WORKS

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) : The basic portion of Puccini's output is about operas : La Boheme, Madam Butterfly, Turandot, Tosca, Manon Lescaut etc., also, Symphonic Capriccio (for orchestra), certain works of chamber music, melodies and a mass.
