NATIONALITY Arthur Honegger (1892-1955) : Arthur Honegger was Swiss. IN GENERAL Arthur Honegger (1892-1955) : Honegger is another important member of the team of 'Six' ("Les Six") that acted in France mainly during the interwar. In any case, Honegger's relation with the remainder team was rather loose and originates from Honegger's friendly relation with Milhaud and also from the support of Eric Satie. Honegger writes music using - in a rather conservative way - the classic tradition, and without - except for a few cases - using enough experimentation or trying to improve certain details in the form. Honegger's fame for composer of such impressive and original works as "Pacific 231" (in which the orchestra is simulating the sound of locomotive !) is rather misleading. STYLE Arthur Honegger (1892-1955) : Honegger uses counterpoint in a standard basis, but, his overall sound is not characterized by any particular originality neither in the form nor in the final content and satisfied more those who wanted and also longed the old romanticism of classic epoch, along with its passion and its greatness. Few only of Honegger's works are revealing the sarcastic, jazz mood of the style of Neoclassicism. Honegger's music, however, remains one of the starting lines for the tonal symphonic tradition of the twentieth century. WORKS Arthur Honegger (1892-1955) : Interesting enough is Honegger's output - Dramatic works : Antigone, Judith, Amfion. Operettas : The Adventures of King Pausole etc. 14 ballets and music for the theatre and the cinema, 4 oratorios, cantatas (Cantata of Christmas), various melodies, Easter in New York (for voice and string quartet), 5 symphonies, 3 symphonic parts (among them also the work "Pacific 231"), concerts for various instruments, 3 string quartets, 2 sonatas for violin and piano and pieces for piano.
