Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904)

NATIONALITY

Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) : Antonin Dvorak was Czech.

IN GENERAL

Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) : Dvorak is one of the most important national composers of the Czech Republic. Dvorak began with a lot of difficulties, but, little by little, with his insistence (and the support of Johannes Brahms who believed a lot in him), the success came, success that was combined with a lot of travels all around the world and, finally, with the apotheosis of Dvorak in the United States, where he also composed the Symphony of the New World, his most known work, where Dvorak uses popular melodic ideas of the New World.

STYLE

Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) : Dvorak's style is full of popular-national music material, usually taken from his homeland but no only (see also about his symphony of the New World). Dvorak's music has inspiration and freshness, is full of ideas and live movement, sometimes it sounds impetuous and sometimes tender depending on the desirable expression. Dvorak's technique was one of the best in his era, even if he did not reach in innovatory extremities as other composers did. Dvorak also dealt with the melodrama but his operas did not live up to our days. In all the breadth of his work, the national-patriotic element exists sovereign, even in Dvorak's personal life.

WORKS

Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) : Dvorak's work has remarkable variety and breadth - Theatre : 10 operas ("Kate and the Devil", "Rusalka" etc.). Choral music : Mass in re more major, "Saint Ludmilla" (oratorio), "Te Deum" (hymn), "Stabat Mater". Symphonic Music : 9 symphonies, symphonic poems, suites, overtures, concerts for various instruments (for piano, for violin, for cello), 2 series of slavic dances. Chamber Music : 12 string quartets, 5 quintets, sextet, pieces for violin and piano, 100 melodies.
