NATIONALITY Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) : Alexander Scriabin was Russian. IN GENERAL Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) : Scriabin is one of the most interesting figures of composers (Scriabin also had an important career as a pianist) whose their style and their general stance towards music changed considerably during their lifetime. In his first years, Scriabin was a rather "evolved"-romantic composer - influenced by such romantic figures as Chopin and Liszt - but, progressively, Scriabin began to get influenced by Wagner's ideas and he started approaching music from a much more modern view as idiom was concerned. Scriabin's main contribution is in the sector of modern harmony, where he proved that a group of non-conventional harmonic configurations exist, which can be used at music composition with great success. During the last years of his life, Scriabin's musical production was closely connected with his philosophical and mystical tendencies. Scriabin is considered to be a "conjunctive" ring between the harmony of the romantic season and this of the twentieth century music (atonality). STYLE Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) : During his first years, Scriabin mainly composed for solo piano using "post-romantic" style and idiom. In his later years, Scriabin's style became significantly more "atonal" with the use of non-conventional harmonies (he was also influenced by Wagner). An example of this are harmonies which are created on the base of the interval of fourth. In the same time, Scriabin began to deal more with works for orchestra. The result was that Scriabin's production - as harmony is concerned - can be considered as something "intermediate" between the romantic season (tonal harmony) and the music of twentieth century (atonal harmony). WORKS Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) : Scriabin's work is interesting enough and appreciable if the composer's short life is taken into consideration : 3 symphonies, Poem of Ecstasy (for orchestra), Prometheus, as well as a lot of compositions for piano (like a concert, 10 sonatas, preludes, impromptus and studies).
